Hey there College Football fans, welcome back to the Campus Huddle, your source for all of the latest updates straight from the development team! You asked. (Loudly.) We listened. (Happily.) And now we’re thrilled to confirm that Mascot Mashup is making its grand entrance day one in College Football 27 this July. It’s our biggest, boldest celebration of school pride yet built to be more expansive, more replayable, and more community driven than any mascot experience we’ve shipped before. Let’s hear from the dev team who has been passionately hard at work making sure this is the best version of mascot mashup yet!

IT’S HERE AND BETTER THAN EVER!

For years, one thing has been loud and clear to us. You love the oversized heads, the giant paws, and the college football energy that happens when mascots take the field and turn a football game into something that feels part rivalry, part school spirit, and part controlled chaos.

With EA Sports College Football 27, we wanted to bring that feeling back in a way that fits the game we are building today. That is how Mascot Mashup was born.

Mascot Mashup is our new, standalone mascot experience designed around fast games, school pride, collection, and fun. It is not a one to one port of a past mode. It is a new take built for CFB 27’s systems, powered by Trophy Room progression, and created for players who want a low pressure, high energy way to celebrate the mascots, traditions, and personality of college football.

WE HEARD YOU, AND WE BUILT BIGGER

Ever since we announced that College Football was coming back, you continued to tell us how much you wanted mascot focused gameplay to return. We saw the requests, read the comments, and then we took action.

That feedback pushed us to craft a modern experience that amplifies the “passion” of College Football 27.

Mascot Mashup is built to be approachable, energetic, and replayable. It is a place where players can jump in quickly, play with friends, chase unlocks, and enjoy a version of football that does not take itself too seriously while still rewarding skill on the sticks.

This is a mode for fans who want to represent their school,  collectors who want to fill out their Trophy Room. And for those groups of friends who want something fun to play on the couch. And Most of all, it is for everyone who has ever wanted to win a football game with an entire roster of mascots.

WHAT IS MASCOT MASHUP?

Mascot Mashup is a standalone mode that lives directly on the Main Menu. You will not need to dig through standard Play Now to find it. You can jump straight into Mascot Mashup and get into the action.

At its core, Mascot Mashup is a streamlined, party ready version of Play Now built specifically for mascots. Every player on the field is a mascot. Every mascot is rated 99 OVR. The result is an 11 on 11 football experience focused on quick fun, momentum swings, creativity, and school pride.

Because every player is tuned to 99 OVR, the mode is not about roster gaps or ratings advantages. It is about execution, timing, play calling, stick skills, and making the most of the chaos. You still need to read the field, make smart decisions, and finish drives, but the overall tone is lighter and more playful than a standard competitive matchup.

We also added mascot adjacent sound effects to help support the vibe. These are light, cartoonish audio touches that keep the experience fun without taking over the game. The goal is to make Mascot Mashup feel playful while still being grounded in core football gameplay.

At launch, Mascot Mashup supports Online, Offline, and Play a Friend. Whether you want to play solo, matchmake online, sit next to someone on the couch, or set up a head to head game with a friend, the mode is built to support those social moments.

Play a Friend is especially exciting for us because Mascot Mashup naturally creates social moments, we want to see them!  It is easy to imagine friends setting up a rivalry night, trading wins, talking trash, and checking the Trophy Room after a big unlock. The mode is built to be competitive, but the tone is meant to be welcoming and fun.

Whether you are playing for bragging rights, collection progress, or just a good laugh, Mascot Mashup gives you multiple ways to play.

STARTING MASCOTS AND THE FULL LAUNCH ROSTER

At launch, Mascot Mashup includes 120 total playable mascots.

You will start with 10 mascots already unlocked including: Oregon, Alabama, Ohio State, JMU, and more.

These programs were selected as part of the 2025 College Football Playoff semifinalists, giving every player a strong starting lineup of iconic college football brands from the moment they enter the mode.

From there, the story begins. There are 75 additional mascots to unlock, giving players a full collection journey inside Mascot Mashup. Whether you want to unlock your favorite school first, chase rivals, work through conferences, or complete the entire roster, the mode is built to give you a clear path forward.

We wanted unlocking mascots to feel simple, satisfying, and directly tied to the schools themselves. This is not a hidden checklist or a confusing menu hunt. You will know what you need to do, where to track it, and how close you are to adding the next mascot to your collection.

FOAM HEADS, BIG HITS, AND BIGGER CHAOS

Mascot Mashup plays by football rules, but the moment mascots take the field, the vibe changes. Expect faster movement, bigger collisions, trick play madness, and just enough shenanigans to make Mascot Mashup feel unique.

DANCE LIKE EVERYBODY’S WATCHING

Before the ball is snapped, mascots bring an enlarged personality to the line of scrimmage with playful pre play dances from both the offense and defense. It immediately sets the tone: this is still football, but it is football with giant heads, and giant energy. 

TRICK PLAYS, BIG AIR, AND BROKEN TACKLES

Once the play begins, Mascot Mashup adds a collection of unique exclusive trick plays on top of the playbook you bring into the game. Your team identity still matters, but now you have extra mascot style wrinkles when you want to catch your opponent guessing.

Mascots also feature special tuning for explosive movement and clean option execution. Ball carriers feel shifty in space, option pitches are crisp, and open field plays can become highlights fast. You will also see fancy ball carrier moves, including the return of the side flip inspired by EA Sports NCAA 14.

The passing game gets in on the fun too, with fancy passes and higher jumps on catch attempts that create more chances for wild completions and contested catches. Special teams are not left out either, as mascots can attempt field goals from much deeper range, up to around 80 yards with the right timing and conditions.

Of course, the chaos cuts both ways. Hit sticks can cause fumbles more frequently, but mascots also break tackles more often. One snap can go from a huge hit, to a loose ball, to a broken tackle, to a mascot sprinting down the sideline while everyone asks what just happened. It truly is the wild west out here.

AURA FARMING: MASCOT STYLE

After the whistle, the personality keeps rolling. Mascot Mashup includes unique touchdown celebrations so your mascot can enjoy the moment properly.

Score, celebrate, and give your opponent just enough time to process that they gave up a 75 yard touchdown to someone with a giant foam head.

PROGRESSION THAT FEELS CLEAR AND FAIR

One of our biggest goals with Mascot Mashup was making progression feel good.

We wanted the unlock path to be clear. We wanted every win to matter. We wanted collectors to have a satisfying chase. And we wanted players to feel like earning a mascot was tied to representing that school on the field.

The core unlock path is simple. Win a Play Now game as that team to unlock its mascot.

That means if you want to unlock a specific mascot, you play as that school and win. Once you meet the requirement, that mascot becomes available in Mascot Mashup and appears in your Trophy Room.

There are a few important rules that keep the grind legitimate. Simming does not count and games must be played. These requirements help make sure that unlocking mascots feels earned and consistent across the community.

Your unlock requirements are always visible in the places where you need them. You can check them in the Trophy Room and in Mascot Mashup Team Select, so you do not have to back out, search through unrelated menus, or guess what comes next.

This was important to us. Mascot Mashup should feel fun and easy to understand. You pick a school, win the game, unlock the mascot, and watch your collection grow.

INSTANT UNLOCK THROUGH MVP+ MEMBERSHIP

For players who want the full mascot roster available immediately, there is an optional instant unlock path.

At launch, the instant unlock for all mascots will be available for those who purchased the MVP Membership*.

The core path remains play and win progression. You can earn mascots through gameplay by winning with each team and building out your collection over time. For players who prefer to jump in with the full roster from the start, MVP Membership provides that optional instant unlock.

POWERED BY THE TROPHY ROOM

Mascot Mashup is closely connected to the Trophy Room, which is one of the reasons the mode feels so collection forward.

Mascots are granted using Trophy Room technology, so unlocking them feels like earning a meaningful in game achievement. When you add a new mascot, it does not just become playable. It also becomes part of your collection, giving you a visible record of your progress.

For collectors and completionists, this is a major part of the experience. The Trophy Room gives you a place to see your progress at a glance and celebrate the mascots you have earned. As your collection grows, your Trophy Room becomes a reflection of the teams you have played with, the wins you have earned, and the schools you have represented.

FAST, FAIR, AND GLORIOUSLY RIDICULOUS

Mascot Mashup is built on core football gameplay, but the feel is intentionally different.

You can expect snappy games that are ideal for unlock runs, friendly rivalries, and quick rematches. Because the mode is built for mascots from the ground up, it is easy to jump in, play a game, and move right into the next one.

At launch, Mascot Mashup does not include unique mascot animations or bespoke broadcast packages. Instead, the experience uses our core gameplay systems, tuned for the mode’s lighter and more arcade like feel. That choice allowed us to focus on making the mode play well, making the unlock flow clear, and making sure the experience is fun whether you are playing online, offline, or against a friend.

The result is exactly what we wanted: fast, fair, and gloriously ridiculous football. You still need to win.  But when every player on the field is a mascot, even a routine play can feel like a highlight.

DIRECT LAUNCHES KEEP YOU IN THE FLOW

We also wanted to make sure Mascot Mashup respects your time.

That is why you can start an unlock run directly from inside Mascot Mashup. You do not need to back out to standard Play Now or navigate away from the mode to begin working toward a mascot.

This may sound like a small detail, but it matters for the overall feel of the experience. If you are trying to collect unlocks, you want to stay in the loop: choose a team, play the game, earn the win, unlock the mascot, and move on to the next target.

Keeping that flow inside Mascot Mashup makes the collection journey smoother and easier to understand. The mode is designed to keep you close to the action, not buried in menus.

Q: Is this the same as the NCAA 14 Mascot Mashup?

A: No, Mascot Mashup is a new, progression driven experience built for College Football 27’s systems with Trophy Room integration. 

Q: Can I unlock everything instantly?

A: Yes, At launch, instantly unlocking all mascots is available for those who purchased the MVP+ Membership which is available until July 2nd, 2026. 

Q: Where can I use unlocked mascots?

A: Unlocked mascots are playable in Mascot Mashup and appear in your Trophy Room.

Q: Is there online play?

A:Yes, Mascot Mashup supports Online, Offline, and Play a Friend at launch.

Q: How many mascots are available?
