ALYSSA THOMPSON’S RISE WASN’T GRADUAL, IT WAS UNPRECEDENTED
A Gatorade National Player of the Year, she made history in 2023 as the first-ever high school player selected No. 1 overall in the NWSL Draft, taken by Angel City FC straight out of high school, a feat no academy or college player had achieved. She quickly helped lift Angel City into the playoffs while rewriting the club’s record books as its all-time regular-season leading scorer.
At 21, she’s already one of the most electric attackers in women’s soccer, playing with a kind of speed and creativity that forces defenders to rethink everything they thought they knew. In 2025, Alyssa took her game global. She signed with Chelsea for a club-record fee, scored in the Champions League, and proved that her talent translated at every level. Off the pitch, her impact hits just as hard: a Nike athlete at 17, a breakout star in a Netflix World Cup documentary, and a face of the next generation reshaping the game.
